Workshop Academy – A New Approach
For many families of those living with intellectual and developmental disabilities, the frustrations of finding and accessing services for their loved ones is real. Whether it’s being told that there will be a 7-9 year wait for services from the Innovations Waiver or the fact that age prohibits one with disabilities from participating in rewarding programs until they turn 25, the barriers are many.
In response to this issue, The Workshop of Davidson developed Workshop Academy! This is a new effort that allows individuals to take part in fun, challenging day activities, much like what is offered through our Innovations Program, without having to go through the rigors of a lengthy waiting list or the guidelines imposed due to age. Families now have the option to enroll their loved ones in Workshop Academy with a customized schedule that works for them. The program operates Monday – Friday, from 8:30 AM to 3:30 PM and participants can choose to take part as little or as much during that timeframe as they would like.
Workshop Academy is about choices, challenging artistic and cognitive skill building activities and community exploration, through weekly field trips and excursions. A set fee (daily or weekly), that is arranged through a private pay format, covers the cost of all program materials, use of facilities and outings.
